Acts of God or Deeds of Men?

We have read recently about several catastrophic events taking place in our country and around the world: virulent diseases, earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and other violent weather phenomenon involving large hail, and devastating floods. Men have labelled these types of events as "acts of God", but what is the real root cause? Scripture points to the deeds of men having a direct effect on the earth. Proverbs 26:2 tells us that the curse causeless shall not come.
From Leviticus 18, we read, "Defile not you yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: and the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomitteth out her inhabitants. Ye shall therefore keep my statues and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue (spew) not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you."  v. 24-28
The beginning of this chapter in Leviticus instructs the children of Israel that they are not to continue in the ways of Egypt, the land they have recently departed, but "ye shall do my judgments and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God."  v. 2-4
Following this, there is a description of defilements and abominations, or uncovering (to reveal, advertise, disclose) nakedness (nudity:both physical and spiritual, shame, uncleanness, indecency, improper behavior). The defiling behavior, or the uncovering of nakedness, by its meaning is also associated with being exiled, or taken into captivity. There is a captivity, spiritual and natural, that comes through these defilements, including an exile from the land. These defilements cause the land to violently spew out the inhabitants, like vomit is forcibly spewed from the body. The LORD first prohibits these defilements and abominations within the family, then the outer family, and then outward again from there to neighbors. Defilement does not remain contained to an individual, but spreads to the family (including the spiritual family), and then the whole community. These defilements by nature take captive man's most intimate behaviors, manifesting in sexual deviation (v. 22-23). The LORD exposes the ultimate intimate deviation and defilement: "And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD."  v. 21
The nations that inhabited the land before the children of Israel practiced the sacrifice of their children to fire to appease and appeal to their chief deity, Molech (meaning king). Israel, though strongly warned by the LORD never to follow this practice, did get involved with this savage form of idol worship. The LORD connects this practice to the profaning (polluting, defiling, desecrating) of His name. He proclaimed that this child sacrifice is something "which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind." (Jer. 19:5). It is not a "choice", but a exiling and profaning defilement.
Child murder, both before and after birth, practiced widely in this nation, defiles the individual, the land, and the name and character of God Himself. Many churches have shamefully partnered with secular government in agreeing with this most defiling behavior, as well as the other intimate defilements of body and soul mentioned in Leviticus. Is it any wonder that the very land upon which we have established our homes, our lives, and our livelihoods, is spewing us out most violently. We have become a defiled people, and we have defiled the land.
Even as the LORD instructed Israel not to be conformed to the ways of Egypt, out of which they were miraculously delivered, the Apostle Paul warns us not to be conformed to the ways and mindset of the world:
"I beseech ye, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."  Rom. 12:1-2
We are not to follow the pattern set by the world and its understanding, but we are to be changed into something else. This change comes by the renewing (renovation, demolishing the old and rotten, and rebuilding the new) of the mind. The only way to renew the mind is to do it with the washing of the Word of God (Eph. 5:26).
We as a nation, have consciously turned away from the judgments and ordinances of God, and turned to the pattern of the world. As a result of this, we have been taken captive by moral, ethical, and spiritual bankruptcy on a scale that we have never before seen. Again, the Apostle Paul warned that these are the consequences that follow when a people know God, have the proof of God all around them, but turn away from His Word and His ways, denying His truth:
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate (worthless, unapproved, unfit) mind, to do those things which are not convenient (becoming, fit). Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful..."
Not only do they do these things themselves, knowing it to be worthy of judgment, but they encourage others to join them in the behavior (Rom. 1:28-32). Again, these defiling behaviors are not just confined to the choice of an individual, but are spread to others.
The defilement begins in the mind, as Paul said, in the choices that the mind makes. Do we retain God in our knowledge? Are we transforming and renewing our minds in His Word? It is the foundation of our spiritual warfare:
"(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every though to the obedience of Christ, and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."
                                                                                                        2 Cor. 10:4-6
In these end times, we look for the prophesied event of the Antichrist exalting himself as God, against God, in the Temple of God, defiling it with the abomination of desecration, profaning His name. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and like the Antichrist, there are forces in the form of thoughts, reasonings, and imaginations that attempt to exalt themselves in, and defile this temple. If we, His people, humble ourselves, pray, turn away from those wicked things, seek His face, He will hear from heaven and heal our land (see 2 Chron. 7:14).

Father's Day 2018

This message is for fathers on this Father's Day, but also to all professing believers. All must prayerfully consider today's message. There is a song by Jeoff Benward, "A Man of God", that expresses the hope that when others, his children included, remember his life, they will remember him as a man of God. This should be the desire of us all, and to achieve that goal, we each need to know and be obedient, to what God is calling us to do. This is especially crucial in these last days before the return of Christ. To learn more about this, please read or listen to the message from last week, "Are You Preparing?".
The LORD warned through His prophet Hosea, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, and thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame...."  Hos. 4:6-7
With these verses, God was rejecting the priesthood who was appointed to serve Him, because they rejected His Word, which is the knowledge of Him. We also have been called to be a kingdom of priests to God, reconciling man and God with His truth. Are we also rejecting the knowledge of Him, and despising our priesthood, as we turn away more and more from His truth?
Today in our nation, we are re-writing history, and using the Word of God inaccurately and out of context, in order to justify ourselves, and our sins. This has been done throughout our history as a nation, whether we were trying to justify our policy of the destruction of the Native Americans in the land, or trying to find the justification of slavery using the scriptures, and many more issues shameful to this country. All of these attempts at twisting away from the truth comes from the same root: a heart of sin.
This is certainly not isolated to the history of America, but exists throughout the scriptures. Jesus made it clear that He would never compromise on bringing the truth, and taught candidly about the consequences of walking in that calling:
"I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am straightened till it be accomplished! Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two and two against three..."
                                                                                                              Lk. 12:49-52
The words and works that Jesus would bring would cause divisions, even dividing households, between those who received the truth, and those who did not. He called the religious groups of the time "hypocrites" and "vipers" as they taught error, while holding on to their sins. Although they could understand the implications of natural signs, they purposefully refused to discern "this time", the time when their Savior from sin was in their midst. They could not even judge of themselves what was right. (v. 54-57). These also are the conditions of our generation.
Even now our nation is divided, both believers and non-believers, over issues and personalities, with both sides of the aisles of government missing the whole point: It's about the signs of the times! Jesus is coming back! Yet we refuse to discern "this time".
Teaching in a synagogue, Jesus was challenged by the religious leaders about whether it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath. Jesus was about to heal a man with a withered hand. Jesus told them that they would rescue one of their animals on the Sabbath. Isn't a man even more valuable? Wherefore, it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days." After Jesus healed the man's hand, the religious plotted how they might destroy Him (Mt. 12:9-14). Jesus consequently warned that a kingdom, city or house divided against itself shall not stand (v. 25). And we are indeed a nation divided by the Word of truth: for and against. Where is the Church? There are souls to be rescued.
We rely instead on political leaders to reflect ourselves, and our opinions, as we claim to stand on truth, but in reality we are turning away from truth. In scripture, the people of God also preferred a man to govern them as a king, as the nations of the world had, rejecting the governance of God's chosen judge and prophet, Samuel. They justified this rejection of God with reasonings and excuses, but God knew what was in their hearts: "...they have rejected me (God), that I should not reign over them."   1 Sam. 8:1-8
The sinful hearts of men made the same choice again when Pilate offered Jesus' release. They chose Barabbas instead, even insisting that they had no king but Caesar (Jn. 19:15). We in America have also rejected God's reign, upon which we were founded, and we have chosen Caesar over Christ.
Jesus taught that to stand for the truth of God's Word, to stand for Jesus, would bring persecution and hatred from the world:
"If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you...But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me...If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin...but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause."
                                                                                          Jn. 15:18-25 (Psalm 35:19)
We have seen how individuals, businesses, and organizations have been socially, legally and economically persecuted because they stood for what they knew to be righteousness. America worships many false gods and idols, as evidenced by what we now espouse and practice. While America demands tolerance of these idols, no tolerance is shown towards those who offend these false gods by speaking the truth of God's Word. The Church does not want to be persecuted, so they have compromised the truth of the Word of God in order to be loved and accepted. However, by so doing, they sever their identity with Christ, the uncompromising truth bringer, and additionally, the Church then conceals the remedy for sin from those who are perishing in it. Scripture says that those who deny their sin walk in darkness, and "do not the truth". The truth is not in them. If, on the other hand, we walk in the light of truth, if we walk with Christ as He is in the light, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 Jn. 1). "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
                                                                                                      2 Chron. 7:14
The Church does no one a favor by hiding the truth about sin, and consequently denying the opportunity for any who desire to be cleansed and delivered from its deathly power.
During the Feast of Atonement, the Book of Jonah is read in the synagogues. Jonah, the prophet who ran from his calling to deliver God's prophetic word to Nineveh, died in the belly of a great fish, descended into Hell for three days and nights, and cried out to God for his rescue. God delivered him from Hell, and resurrected him from the dead - made death spit him out!. This is the same sign, the sign of Jonah, that Jesus promised to fulfill to a wicked and adulterous generation (Mt. 12:38-40), which describes our generation also. Jesus is the one who was dead, and is alive for ever more.
The physical evidence of Christ's great victory over sin and death, which supports every word of the scriptural account, is found on the fibers of the linen cloth used to enfold His body as He was entombed. We have the Word of God for the truth and solid foundation of our faith, and the image of the risen Christ on the Shroud of Turin for a gracious confirming sign.
Fathers and all believers, it is time to return to the truth. It is time to walk in the truth. It is time to speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15).

Are You Preparing?

The Lord Jesus gave clear instructions and warnings, concerning the signs of the end times, and pertaining to His coming. As we see the signs occurring more and more frequently, it is very likely that Jesus' words apply to our generation more than any generation that has come before us. The nearer we draw to His return, the more important it is that we heed His instructions, and prepare ourselves accordingly. When speaking of these end times, Jesus referred to the fig tree in parable. Many believe that the fig tree represents Israel, and its place in end time events. We will also see how it is an important sign for the Church, even from the Old Testament.
After warning of tribulation, false Christs, and referring to the catching away of the Church, Jesus continues:
"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only...Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come."
                                                                                          Mt. 24:32-42 (excerpt)
Jesus described the behavior that should accompany this uncertainty regarding the exact moment of His coming. He tells of how a good man, or servant, of the house, if he knew the moment of the coming of a thief, would make sure to have kept watch for it.
He instructs us to keep the same kind of vigil, so we will not be caught unprepared for His sudden coming. It will come at the exact time that we think it won't come. He warned, "Therefore be ye also ready."   Mt. 24:43-44
Not only are we to watch, but we are to be found doing the work at His coming that we have been called and purposed to do. If we are doing that work, we will be blessed and rewarded.  What is the work that the Lord should find us doing upon His return?
"Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?"  Mt. 24:45
We are to be occupied in the work that He has purposed us to do-providing spiritual meat for all called to the household of God. The "meat" to be provided is the uncompromised Word of truth, and the works of ministry in the name of the Lord, and the making of disciples.
At the same time, Jesus also told about the evil servant, who, based on his belief that the lord of the house would not be returning soon, not only did not perform the duties expected of him, but abused the others serving in the household, and spent his hours in sinful activity (v.48-49). Jesus warned that the consequences to this servant will be devastating:
"The lord of that servant...shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth (extreme anguish and utter despair)....and will appoint him his portion with unbelievers"  Mt. 24:50-51, Lk. 12:46
This is the same judgment that was determined for the guest at the king's wedding banquet for his son, who was not attired in the proper wedding garment. The king ordered that guest to be bound and cast into the outer darkness (Mt. 22:12-13). Jesus concluded with the chilling statement:
"For many are called, but few are chosen."  Mt. 22:14
There will not be time to prepare or to be ready when the moment of His coming arrives. The Lord instructed to have our loins girded about (out of bed and dressed), and our lights burning, even in the middle of the night, when others have gone to bed thinking the master is not about to return. At the sound of His knock, we are to be ready to open the door to Him immediately (Lk. 12:35-36). Like the servant, this is the Lord's expectation of us, this is part of the "duties" that have been given to us:
"For the Son of man...gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch...Lest coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say to you all, Watch."  Mk. 13:34-37 (excerpt)
In the Song of Songs, the bride lost her opportunity to go with the bridegroom because she was not prepared for his knock, though the signs and seasons pointed to his soon arrival:
(The bridegroom is speaking) "The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with their tender grapes give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away."
                                                                                                     Song 2:13
(The bride is speaking) "I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night. I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?"  Song 5:2-3
The bride had already undressed and gone to bed. She was not prepared to open the door immediately to the bridegroom. By the time she got to the door, he had withdrawn (turned away). She went out into the streets looking for him, but couldn't find him. She called out to him, but he didn't answer. The watchmen and the keepers of the wall beat her, and took her veil away from her. The protectors of the city would have judged her to be a harlot, belonging to no one, out in the streets at night (Song 5:6-7 ).
In all of these parables and prophetic pictures, excuses were not accepted for not being prepared properly, for not being found performing the assigned work.
We need to understand and heed the signs of the times, and we need to know and be in our proper places in the Body of Christ, doing the work that has been purposed by the Lord for each one: awake, watchful, and prayerful, fully prepared for His coming at a moment when we might least expect Him. Peter told us that in the last days, the world will scoff at the idea of the Lord's imminent return (2 Pet. 3:3-4). However, we are to be prepared. Every indication we have points to the fact that He is coming soon.

What If GOD Said, "BASTA!!"?

Lately, we have seen the word, "Basta!" appear in political comments, and people have been using the term more frequently in regard to other topics as well. The word is Spanish, and means, "Enough!", "Enough is enough!", "Stop!".
Recently, one preacher used the term in the following manner:
"God is saying, "BASTA!!".
Is this scriptural? It certainly is, and it could surely apply in the times in which we are living,  in the midst of the wickedness that is so prevalent. When has God said that He has had enough? Sadly, God has expressed this "enough" sentiment regarding His own people.
Paul, in discussing the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, relates an order of events that must come first:
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God; or that is worshipped...For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming."  2 Thess. 2:1-8 (excerpt)
The event that precedes the revealing of this man of sin, whom we call the Antichrist, is a falling away of believers from the truth of God. Once people fall away from the truth of God,  which is His word, the power, signs, and lying wonders of the wicked one, the "deceivableness of unrighteousness", is at work. Those who are condemned, refused to receive the love of the truth, so they are sent a strong delusion from God, that they would believe a (the) lie. The original lie is found in Genesis, when the serpent encourages Adam and Eve to question what God has said. "Yea, hath God said...?" (Gen. 3:1). This is described as "the fall of man". Here we have another "falling away". It starts with God's own people rejecting the truth, rejecting the Word, which is God, Himself. They believe not the truth because they have pleasure in unrighteousness (2 Thess. 2:12). Are we not seeing this very thing in this present time? Is God about to say, "BASTA!!"?
King Saul was commanded by God to completely destroy a wicked people, the Amalekites, who had historically made war continually against God's people. Saul did not obey, and then lied about his actions, finally blaming the people for his own disobedience. He then tried to justify himself by claiming he spared the goods of the Amalekites in order to offer them to God. The prophet Samuel corrected Saul saying,
"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king."1 Sam. 15:22-23
God had had enough. No more chances, nor excuses accepted from Saul. He also told Samuel that he had mourned the fall of Saul for long enough (Basta, enough!)-there was a new king to anoint. This king would be a man after God's own heart-David.
As Israel carried out the feasts and offerings to God, God saw the unfaithful and unrighteous condition of their hearts. Their empty observances, and vain offerings became an abomination to Him:
"Your new moons, and your appointed feasts, my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them. And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. Wash ye, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil."  Isa. 1:14-16
The LORD described their hands as covered in blood, and their indifferent behavior towards Him, and their abuse of the weaker among them, as unrighteous. If they repent, He will restore them. If they refuse and rebel, destruction will come upon them. (Basta, enough!)
To the prophet Jeremiah, the LORD said that He would no longer accept the spiritual wandering of His people. He gave this solemn instruction to His prophet:
"Pray not for this people for their good."  Jer. 14:11
Jeremiah told the LORD that the people were being duped by false prophets who were prophesying that all would be well, and that Judah would live in peace. Then the LORD said,
"The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart."   Jer. 14:14
"Then said the LORD unto me, Though (Even if) Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth."   Jer. 15:1
Today we are following the same pattern found in Jeremiah, in many ways. Those who have been appointed and anointed to edify the church into the unity of the faith, and the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, and teachers, have been forsaken like Jeremiah. False teachers, and false doctrines have sought to replace the word of God with the convenient choices of men: the deceivableness of unrighteousness. Not all who are purported to be god, are the only true God. Not all that is called acceptable to man, is acceptable before God.The church is falling away, wandering, as God told Jeremiah.
Jeremiah described himself in a way that showed the foundational difference between himself, and the false prophets who were feeding deception to a people who were eager to accept it:
"Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts."  Jer. 15:16
Do we treat God's word as if it is a joy to our hearts? Or have we chosen, instead, the words of men, having pleasure in the unrighteousness approved by men?
The angel of the LORD appeared before John declaring that a seventh angel shall begin to sound his voice, that the mystery of God should be finished, as He declared it to His servants, the prophets (Rev. 10:7). This angel who appeared before John, lifted up his hand to heaven and swore by the Creator of all things, "...there should be time no longer." (v. 6).
Is God indeed saying to His people, "Basta! Enough!"?
