Weaving Your Wedding Garment

Previously, we discussed the Jewish marriage covenant, or contract, called a Ketubah. Most of the obligations of the contract, which involves financial security for the wife, falls upon the groom to guarantee and fulfill. In Christ's marriage covenant with us, His bride, the same applies. He has guaranteed with His own blood, our eternal security, and our spiritual position seated with Him.
Once the bride accepts the Ketubah marriage contract that the groom proposes, she begins her preparations for the upcoming wedding. These wedding preparations include ritual cleansings, called mikvahs, for the purpose of purity and holiness, and the weaving of her bridal garment. We see this same kind of preparation involved in the marriage of Christ and His Church:
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."    Eph. 5:26-27
The Hebrew word for bride is "kallah", which means "perfect, complete, the son's wife". The root word, "kalal" is a verb meaning "to complete, to perfect". Both words also include a meaning "to put a crown upon". In Jewish weddings, the bride is very much treated as a queen. There is a transformation that results from the bride's marriage preparations, through which the bride goes from being a betrothed woman, to a wife. According to scripture, this transformation through the joining of marriage, and prophetically speaking, the marriage of the Lamb and His wife, has a wide-ranging effect far beyond the two immediately involved:
"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as a garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the LORD God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations."    Isa. 61:10-11
We know this is the Messiah speaking, because Jesus identified Himself as fulfilling the scriptures in His reading of Isaiah 61:1-2a in the synagogue (Lk. 4:18). This is the same voice speaking throughout this section of scripture. All of the nations will be changed as the Bride and her Savior Groom are joined together in the wedding. The marriage is immediately connected with the return and reign of Messiah on earth. We can understand the great rejoicing connected with this event when we see the resulting transformation in the land:
"...the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. Thou shalt also be a crown of glory...and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah ("My delight is in her"), and thy land Beulah ("married, married wife, husband"): for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee."   Isa. 62:3-5
Restoration and renewal is connected to the marriage between the Bridegroom and the Bride, even as a bride receives a new name from marriage (see also Rev.2:17):
"Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast, the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, "Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for His mercy endureth forever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land as at the first, saith the LORD...In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David (referring to Messiah and His rule); and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, "The LORD Our Righteousness".  Jer. 33: 10-11, 15-16
Surprisingly, not everyone who is called to this great wedding that will lead to the return of Messiah, and to the transformation of the nations, will be willing to attend. Jesus tells a parable of a king who desires to give a marriage celebration for his son (Mt. 22:1-14). Many refused to come, some refusing with violence, because they preferred to attend to their daily activities instead. Because the guests refused, strangers had to be invited, even compelled, instead. Those who attended, were expected to wear the proper wedding garments. If they did not, they were thrown out of the wedding. The place outside the wedding is a place of outer darkness. Jesus concludes His parable of those who refused to attend the wedding of the king's son by saying, "For many are called, but few are chosen."
For those who are the Bride, the Church, we are expected to prepare for this great upcoming event, and not to be of the same mind as those who refuse (Eph. 4:17-18).
Part of the Jewish marriage tradition is the giving of a gift by the groom to the bride upon the bride's acceptance the Ketubah marriage contract. This gift is called a matan. Jesus, our Bridegroom, also has given gifts to His betrothed Bride, the Church. These gifts also help to prepare us for the marriage to the Lamb. These gifts include apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers (Eph. 4:11-16). These gifts to the Church speak the truth in love that we may all grow into Christ. Their care and teaching leads to the perfecting (see "bride" above) of the saints until we come into the unity of faith, the knowledge of the Son of God, our perfecting leading us to come into the measure of the stature of the fullness (to be complete- see "bride" above)) of Christ. If we refuse these precious gifts from Christ to the Church, we will not have prepared ourselves (Rev. 19:7), not having been properly cleansed, as the betrothed bride should be, and we will not have completed the weaving of our wedding garment, one without spot or wrinkle.

The Marriage Covenant

Before we  continue our discussion of the coming Fall Feasts of the LORD, it is important to discuss the Jewish marriage covenant. Jesus repeatedly spoke of Himself in terms of a Bridegroom, but because the Church has divorced itself from its Jewish roots, we often fail to see the Jewish construct from which Jesus taught.
The Jewish wedding covenant was at the time of Christ, and still is today, a legal contract called a Ketubah (example shown above). The prospective bridegroom brings the wedding contract to his hopefully future bride's home, along with witnesses. In the actual wedding covenant or contract, the groom promises to provide security to the bride, and puts up his property as assurance for the future protection and security of the bride, even in case of divorce. The bride, of her own free will, choses whether she will accept the groom and the marriage covenant. The groom also brings wine with him to seal and celebrate the accepted covenant, which they drink during a shared meal.
The Apostle Paul also describes the relationship between Christ and the Church as a marriage relationship:
"Husbands love your wives even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify it and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing,; but that it should be holy and without blemish (see also Rev. 19:7 referring to the bride of the Lamb)...For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church."
                                                                            Eph. 5:25-27, 30-32
This is the same commission concerning marriage that the LORD gave to the first man, Adam (Gen. 2:23-24). Jesus further affirmed the marriage relationship as a joining through which two individuals become one flesh:
"And (Jesus) said, "For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh...Wherefore, they are no more twain but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."  Mt. 19:5-6
From the beginning (Mt. 19:8), marriage is the only relationship whereby two separate individuals can become one flesh (echad). This union is the purpose between Christ and the Church- that the two, through marriage, become one.
Jesus has provided the required security for the Bride in His marriage covenant, or Ketubah, with His Church. He provided our protection and security with own His blood (1 Cor. 6:19), and with His own inheritance:
"And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ...".  Rom.8:17
As a Jewish Bridegroom, Jesus further assures the security of His bride by preparing a dwelling for her in His Father's house:
"In My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am,  there ye may be also...You have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved Me, ye would rejoice..."
                                                                                                 Jn. 14:2-3, 28a
Even the return of Jesus, to which we all look forward, is a promise given in the context of the Jewish marriage covenant, the Ketubah, as you can see in the above scriptures. As with the Jewish wedding, great rejoicing is associated with the groom coming for his bride.

As we stated previously, in the Jewish custom of the Ketubah, the bridegroom comes to the bride's house. If she agrees to the marriage covenant, they share a meal together with the family:
"Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with Me."   Rev. 3:20
The bridegroom also brings witnesses with him to witness the terms of the Ketubah contract, and the bride's acceptance of them. In the same manner, Jesus provides the Holy Spirit as a witness of His marriage covenant with us:
"And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter ("parakletos"- called to one's aid, helper, aider, assistant), that He may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you: I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you...But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."     Jn. 14:16-18, 26
This special witness, the Holy Spirit, this helper and assistant, is sent by Jesus' Father, on His, the Groom's, behalf. In the Torah, there is a type and shadow of this special Witness and Helper in the marriage covenant. Abraham sent his servant, Eliezer ("God is Help"), to secure a bride for his son, Isaac. Once Eliezer, through God's help, identifies the perfect candidate for the son's bride, he presents her and her family with gold, and his master's great possessions, which he brought with him on ten camels (Gen. 24:10, 22, 53). As required with the Ketubah, the bride, Rebekah, consented to the marriage of her own free will:
"And they called Rebekah and said unto her, "Wilt thou go with this man?"  And she said, "I will go."   Gen 24:58
This is the same with each of us. We each had to accept the (marriage) covenant which Jesus offered to us. It is a free will choice.
According to the promise that Jesus made, as Abraham sent Eliezer, the Father sends His Helper, the Holy Spirit, on His Son's behalf, to the Bride with great gifts and possessions, even His power from on high (Acts 1:8). It is the marriage covenant witness of the Holy Spirit with our spirit that assures our security as joint heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:16-17).
Finally, as the Jewish bridegroom comes to his future bride's house to gain her agreement to the Ketubah, he brings with him wine to seal and celebrate the marriage covenant. The first miracle of Jesus was turning water into fine wine at the wedding at Cana (Jn. 2:1-11). Jesus also sealed His (marriage) covenant with us in wine, His blood:
"And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink ye all of it; For this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit, until that day when I drink it with you in My Father's kingdom."   Mt. 26:27-29
In the Jewish marriage ceremony, wine is also used twice. At the beginning of the ceremony, the bride and groom sip wine to acknowledge their sanctification, and the sanctification of the wedding day. They don't drink wine again until later in the ceremony after the seven marriage blessings are said, and thanking God for the privilege of joining together in marriage.
As we see the significance that the Jewish marriage customs play in Christ's relationship with us, we can understand why marriage is under such attack today. The world has tried to change the whole meaning, character, and spiritual importance of marriage, because the world cannot receive, or know it (Jn. 14:17). Certainly those who do know Christ, should understand the depth, the spiritual richness, and prophetic example of the marriage covenant.
The Jewish people often compare the marriage covenant contract, the Ketubah, to the giving of the Law on Mt. Sinai, which was God's joining to the people of Israel. The Church also, can now understand that the Torah, as well as being the Book of the Law, is the Ketubah marriage covenant between Jesus and ourselves.

Becoming Wise

For the coming Marriage Supper of the Lamb, the Lord's bride is expected to prepare herself, to make herself ready, for His soon appearing (Rev. 19:7). Jesus describes some of this preparation in Mt. 25:1-13. In this parable of the ten virgins who all awaited the Bridegroom, Jesus referred to five as "wise", and five as "foolish". The difference between the two groups is that, although both groups slept and slumbered, the first group who were wise, had enough oil with them to keep their lamps lighted as they went out to meet the Bridegroom when He came. The second, or foolish, group did not, and their lamps went out. Consequently, because they had not been properly prepared, they missed the coming of the Bridegroom, and the entrance into the marriage feast. Therefore, an important part in becoming prepared for the marriage to the Lamb, is to be wise, to be "lighted" with lamps and abundant oil.
As our nation is torn apart with racial hatred, violence, and ungodly acts, which are capturing headlines daily, and as the signs of the end of the age are becoming apparent, are we, the Church, lighting our spiritual lamps, shining with the wisdom of God? It doesn't appear to be the case. The Church is strangely silent, not bringing forth that light of wisdom. Wisdom can shine a warning light that leads others to salvation. The Church, without its lighted lamps, cannot be distinguished from the surrounding spiritual darkness.
The prophet Daniel, recounting the visions God showed him of end time turmoil and tribulation that comes upon the whole earth, also prophesies the role of the shining Wise during this time. He describes a terrible fourth beast of iron, who rules over this age:
"After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was divers ("shena"- altered, changed, transformed) from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns... strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise."   Dan. 7:7, 2:40
This terrible, altered fourth beast has mingled with the seed of men (Dan. 2:41-43), and as a result, the same manner in which this beast is altered or diverse, men have become altered in spiritual character, and twisted in understanding by their association with it (Rom. 1:21-32). In its diverse state, the beast seeks to alter all around it. It even seeks to change times (set time, season, appointed time, stated time, fixed time) and laws (decrees of kings, laws of God, religion, system of religion, plan, purpose, commandment, statute) (Dan. 7:25). Like never before, we are seeing this come to pass in our time. Even as this fourth beast of Daniel is described as speaking great words against the Most High, we are seeing God purposefully removed from every section of society in our nation. Many men no longer revere God, or His Word.
Daniel said that the whole earth would be under the destructive power of this beast:
"...The fourth beast ...shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces."  Dan. 7:23
However, its greatest fury is reserved for the saints of God:
"...made war with the saints, and prevailed against them...and shall wear out the saints of the Most High..."  Dan. 7:21, 25 (excerpts)
Even as the saints are worn out by this beast, and it seems that the beast is prevailing against them, the saints, the Wise, begin to shine:
"Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand...And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness, as the stars for ever and ever...but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits. And they that understand among the people shall instruct many..."
                                                                                       Dan. 12:10, 3, 11:32-33)
Though the toll is heavy, as the Wise shine through this trying time, even leading many others into righteousness, the Kingdom of God rises up and overcomes the beast that sought to destroy the saints and the whole earth:
"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever...the Ancient of Days came and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom...the saints of the Most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever...the judgment shall sit, and they (the saints) shall take away his (the beast's) dominion, to consume, and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him."   Dan.2:44, 7:22, 18, 26-27
Whether because we are seeing how all of these things which Daniel
prophesied are now manifesting throughout the earth, or because we understand that the return of our Lord and Bridegroom is upon us, in both cases, the wise are called upon to prepare themselves with oil, to wake up, to light their lamps and shine with the wisdom and salvation of the kingdom of God in the earth. It is time for complaisance, slumber, and compromise and collaboration with the spirit of this world to end.
"And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven saying, "The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever."                                          Rev. 11:15

Back to the Garden- The Feast of Tabernacles

Since before creation, when the Lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8), it has been God's will and plan to tabernacle, or dwell, with men.
As we go through the feasts of the LORD during the year, the last feast is the Feast of Tabernacles (dwelling, habitation, tent, abide, reside). It is the seventh feast, in the seventh month, lasting seven days. The number "seven" has a special significance being the number of the Sabbath rest of God. The Feast of Tabernacles is a joyous feast that comes at the end of the fall harvest. It is a prophetic type and shadow of the will of God to make His dwelling place with men. From the beginning of God's relationship with man on the earth, we see His desire to tabernacle with us:
"And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid (hide, secretly, withdraw, harden) themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden."    Gen. 3:8
It is interesting to note that God did not withdraw from man, but man withdrew from God after he sinned. From that point onward, God expressed His desire and plan to re-establish His tabernacle with men. God gave us a beautiful picture of this desire when He approached Abraham's tent (dwelling, tabernacle, home) in Mamre (Gen. 18:2). The LORD supped with Abraham (v. 8). The LORD prophesied the miraculous birth of a son for the aged Abraham and his wife (v. 10). The LORD received the intercession of Abraham for the righteous that may have been living in the doomed cities of Sodom and Gomorrah (v. 26-32). Later, because of Abraham's intercession, a miraculous angelic rescue was provided for a family that lived there.
The LORD repeated His desire to tabernacle with men to Moses, not only through the Law pertaining to the feasts (Lev. 23:34-44), but also in prophecy:
"And I will set My tabernacle amongst you: and My soul shall not abhor you. And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be My people. I am the LORD your God which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright."   Lev. 26:11-13
The LORD placed in David's heart and song, a desire to tabernacle with Him:
"One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble, He shall hide me in His pavilion...my head shall be lifted up above mine enemies....therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy..."
                                                                                                         Ps. 27:6-6
Though David was a sinful man, he had a heart of repentance, and his heart always sought God's heart. The LORD described David as, "...a man after Mine own heart, which shall fulfil all My will."  (Acts 13:22). We see that heart above in David's desire for the tabernacle of God.
The LORD spoke again of His plan to tabernacle with men through His prophets:
"Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them...and will set My sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And the heathen shall know that I do sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore."    Ezek. 37:26-28
Even the heathen will know God because of the way that He will tabernacle with His people. This dwelling among men will not just be for seven days out of every year, but for eternity.
In the Father's plan of salvation, He reveals again His desire to tabernacle with men. He sent His Son to dwell, or tabernacle, with them, and Jesus confirms the goal:
"And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth."
"Jesus answered and said unto him, "If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him."  Jn. 14:23
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man open the door, I will come in to him, and I will sup with him, and he with Me."  Rev. 3:20
All that is required of us is to open the door of our hearts to Him, and He will tabernacle with us.
Further into the ages, the LORD repeats His plan to have His tabernacle among men. Throughout the Millenial Reign (1,000 years) of Christ on earth, the nations will be required to come to His tabernacle:
"And it shall come to pass that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles."   Zech. 14:16
Even the enemy nations which will seek to destroy Jerusalem in the day of the LORD, even the most strident in hatred, those who will set their plans against God and His people, will be required to come to the Feast of Tabernacles. If they fail to do so, their land will receive no rain (v. 17-19). So strong is the LORD's will to tabernacle among men.
And it will be the Spirit and heart of tabernacles that will bring the earth into a new creation, and into an eternal dwelling place with God:
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven, and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I, John, saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God."  Rev. 21:1-3
So, as you can see, from before the beginning, and continuing on into the last chapters of scripture, God has not changed His desire and plan to tabernacle and dwell with men. Even when we have withdrawn and hidden from Him in sin, even when we have rejected and rebelled against Him, His glorious plan for us has never wavered. It is His everlasting covenant with us- His covenant of peace. Let us joyfully celebrate the LORD's Feast of Tabernacles.

Feast of Atonement-Yeshua IS Our Atonement

The Feast of Atonement, Yom Kippur, is the second fall feast of the LORD. One day a year, the high priest entered into the Holy of Holies of the Tabernacle or Temple, and sprinkled the blood of the sacrifice upon the Mercy Seat, which was atop the Ark of the Covenant. This blood offering cleansed the sins of the people for one year. It was not a permanent atonement for sin, and had to be renewed yearly. The days leading up to this feast were marked by self-examination, and deep repentance. This feast was a prophetic type and shadow that would be perfectly, and eternally, fulfilled by the Messiah.
Under the New Covenant, Jesus Christ became both our High Priest who enters, and the  blood of sprinkling. He brought  into the heavenly Holy of Holies the sacrifice of blood that He provided from His own body, to sprinkle upon the Mercy Seat of God:
"Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause, He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."   Heb. 9:12-15
                                                                     And:
"Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ...To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you..."  1 Pet. 1:2, 4
No longer for just a year, but now, as Christ has fulfilled the Feast of Atonement with the sprinkling of His blood, the redemption and the inheritance are eternal.
The Jewish blessing and prayer for the Feast of Atonement is "May you be inscribed in the Book of Life". Now, through Christ, the Messiah, that prayer is fulfilled.
We should also know that not only did Jesus enter the Holy of Holies with His blood, but in so doing, He made the way possible for us to enter this holiest place as well:
"Having therefore, brethren , boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the vail, that is to say, His flesh; and having a High Priest over the house of God; let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed in pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our hope without wavering (for He is faithful that promised)."   Heb. 10:19-23
Following into the Holy of Holies, after the way that Jesus established with His blood, we follow Him in priesthood, and we have priestly responsibilities, and obligations. We cannot hold our priesthood in just any manner. It requires consecration, setting ourselves apart from the ways and spirit of the world. Through the Prophet Malachi, God exhorted the priesthood:
"For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto My name, and a pure offering: for My name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts."
                                                                                            Mal. 1:11
Incense offered to God is the form of our prayers before Him (Rev. 8:3-4), and also in the verse above, God says He requires a pure offering. We are that pure offering ("I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."  Rom. 12:1). As we perform these priestly duties, God's name becomes great in all the nations, and among the heathen who do not know Him. We see this principle again in Malachi:
"My covenant was with him (that is Levi, the tribe of priests) of life and peace,,,he feared (reverenced, awed by) Me, and was afraid (amazed, broken, prostrate) before My name. The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with Me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts."  Mal. 2:5-7
The LORD teaches through Malachi above, that the priest who fulfills his responsibilities as he should, brings the covenant of life and peace with him. His reverent ministry before God has the effect of turning many others from iniquity. People will seek the knowledge and truth found in the priest's mouth, and the priest becomes the messenger of the LORD. All of this is accomplished as a result of the total reverence and deference to God in the priest's own heart. His own heart must be sprinkled with that atoning blood.
All of this great work of the Messiah's atoning blood and the Spirit is a fulfillment of the prophetic promise of God:
"And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one who is in bitterness for his first born...In that day, there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhbitnts of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the (false) prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land....And one shall say unto Him, "What are these wounds in Thine hands? Then He shall answer, "Those with which I was wounded in the house of My friends."  Zech. 12:10, 13:1-2, 6
The eternal promise and inheritance have been accomplished in us and through us in the fulfillment by Jesus of the Feast of Atonement. Others, even whole nations, are to be impacted by that atonement work in us. However, as we have seen, our resulting priesthood in Christ also requires something of us.
