Rapture Ready - Are You Really Ready?*

As we see the signs of the end times around us, including pandemics, turbulent and destructive weather, economic troubles, many Christians are looking for The Rapture, the catching away of the Church to be with Christ. People are saying they are Rapture- ready, but do we really understand what it takes to be ready for The Rapture? Jesus gave this warning regarding what can become stumbling blocks to our "readiness": "And take heed to yourselves lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare it shall come upon all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man." (Lk. 21:34-36). Even the cares of this life can derail our ability to be Rapture-ready. Jesus said for us to pray that we may be accounted worthy. What is required to be worthy? Jesus told us: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Mt. 5:48). "Perfect" as used here means complete, as in having grown into the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ, as stated in Ephesians 4. In Rev. 3, Jesus gave a warning to the church at Sardis saying, "Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God." He urged this church to repent. If they did not repent, He would come upon them like a thief in the night, "and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." As for those in the Sardis church who had not defiled their spiritual garments: "...they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy." (Rev. 3:1-6). Jesus is looking for ferfect works from His church. How do we attain this perfection, the completeness of the fulness of Christ? Jesus had a discussion with a rich young man who had spent most of his life living according to the commandments of God, but still felt that he lacked something necessary that he may have eternal life. He asked Jesus, "...what lack I yet?". Jesus answered him, "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow (akoloutheo- walk the same road) me." (Mt. 19:16-21). Jesus told this pious, sincere young man, "Walk the same road as Me". What does it mean to follow or walk the same road as Christ? As the LORD described the way that pleased Him through His prophet, Micah wrote, "Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Wlll the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams...shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" (Micah 6:6-8). The LORD is saying here, as Jesus said, "Follow Me!", "Walk the same road with Me!". The LORD said the same thing to Abram: "I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect." (Gen. 17:1). As God separated Abram from his home in Ur of the Chaldees, He separates us also from the world by saying, "Walk with Me, and be perfect". The LORD separated Noah from the violent and corrupt world around him, a world that would experience God's judgment, by saying of Noah, "...Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD...Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God." (Gen. 6:8-9). Of the man, Enoch, who lived before the flood of judgment, and who was the first example in scripture of one who was "raptured", God said, "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. (Gen. 5:22-24). This message, to be perfect, to walk with God, to follow Him, has been repeated throughout the Word of God. There is a coming judgment. There is a heaven to gain, and a hell to shun. There is a Church in need of making herself ready for The Rapture, and for Christ's return. Pray to be worthy to escape and stand before the Son of Man. Be perfect, and walk the same road with the Lord. To contact: P.O. Box 154221, Waco, TX, 76705 or Everlastingcovenant@ymail.com. You can also find Dr. Stevenson on Facebook and Twitter.

Called To Be Christians*

There is great turmoil troubling our nation at this time. A question was brought to mind recently for the Body of Christ: If you were put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? The term "Christian" was first used in the New Testament. Barnabas sought out Paul to minister to the new believers in Antioch: "And when he found him (Paul), he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to psss, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people, and the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." (Acts 11:26). The term used here is "called" Christians. Being called generates from a divine direction by God Himself. Many view the Law of Moses to be legalistic, harsh, and not part of a Christian's walk. However, the Law had a purpose, which we will see. It's purpose was to bring us closer to God, as our source of righteousness, and as our measure of justice. Jesus was asked about the Law by a religious lawyer in order to tempt Him and test Him. Jesus brought forth this revelation instead when asked which is the great commandment: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Mt. 22:34-40). Not only is the Law summed up in these two commandments, but all of the writings of the prophets as well! The Law is designed to bring us to love God above all else, and to love our neighbor. As told in the parable of the good Samaritan, our neighbor also includes those of a different race, ethnicity, or religious practice. Scripture says that all men are of one blood, and descended from Noah and his family, the survivors of the flood. One of those prophets, Micah, delivered this Word from the LORD: "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God." (Micah 6:8) The commandments of God were fulfilled by Christ, and meant to identify us: "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commndments: and his commandments are not grievous." (1 Jn. 5:2-3). Jesus broke the Law done even further when He said: "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." (Mt. 7:12). We recently saw a violent mob crash into the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.. Some of those in the mob were carrying political banners, but some were carrying Christian flags. People were killed, crushed, and had to run for their lives. Is this what those who are called to be Christians are supposed to be doing and representing? Jesus said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Mt. 7:21). Jesus told us that we would know those who are genuine in the faith and those who are not, by their fruit, and we were to beware of those who bring forth evil fruit. He said, "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire." (v. 18-19). Do not be caught up with those who have corrupt minds. In the same Spirit that Jesus taught about the good tree that brings forth good fruit, Paul wrote in Galatians 5 about the fruit of the Spirit of God. The fruit of the Spirit is listed as: "...love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, tempernce: against such there is no law." (Gal. 5:22-23). There is no law against this precious fruit of the Spirit because, as Paul wrote earlier in this chapter: "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (v. 14). In the next chapter of Galatians, Paul urges us to restore a fallen brother in the spirit of meekness, and to bear one another's burdens, "and so fulfill the law of Christ...And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due seaon we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." (Gal. 6:1-2, 9-10). As for "doing good" especilly to those of the household of faith, we are not to forget the teacher who teaches us, with whom we are to share all good things (v. 6). Another prophet, Isaiah, brought forth our responsibility to undo the burdens of others, to let the oppressed go free, to bring into our homes the poor who have been cast out of theirs, to feed the hungry, and clothe the naked (Isa. 58:6-7). Jesus spoke the same thing about a King who said: "I was hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me." The hearers of these statements will ask the King (Jesus) when they did these things for Him. Jesus, the King, will answer them: "Verily, I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Mt. 25:34-44). This is from the pararable of the separation of the sheep and the goats when the Son comes in His glory. The sheep who did all of these things for their needy brethren will be the inheritors of the Kingdom. To those who did not, the goats, the Son will say, "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels." (v. 41). The goats would have done all of these loving things for Christ, Himself, but they refused to see that doing these things for the least of the brethren, is the same as doing them for Christ. This is the fulfillment of all the Law and the prophets. This is the fulfillment of the law of Christ. Considering all of these things, I ask again, if you were put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? *Based on Dr. Kenneth E. First Become Humble*

The Good Samaritan

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
2 Chron. 7:14
As I have discussed in many previous messages, our nation needs the healing that is found in the above chapter and verse from 2 Chronicles. The responsibility and call is to God's people, who are called by His name. The first thing mentioned above, in order to turn a nation's sickness into healing, is for God's people to humble themselves. However, rather than being an age of humility, this era has instead become one associated with pride. Pride has become connected with everything, including things which are against the Word of God. Pride on both sides of the racial divide is threatening to tear our nation apart. It is even more important then, for God's people to understand the need to be humble, but, unfortunately, I have not seen this in practice across the Body of Christ. Scripture teaches the value that God places upon the humble heart:
"...ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due time....Submit yourselves therefor to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you"
                                                                        1 Pet. 5:5-6. and James 4:6-7, 10
The Word also tells us that pride is associated with destruction, not healing:
"A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit." Pr. 29:23
The prophets also revealed the spiritual power and blessing of humility:
"For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones."  Isa. 57:15
God's promise is to dwell among His people, to tabernacle in their midst, restoring the relationship He had in the beginning with Adam in the Garden, through Jesus, His Son. This requires a humble and contrite heart in His people. He has shown us what is good, "...and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"  Mic. 6:8
We have seen very little justice and mercy. Those who are wounded, downtrodden, disregarded for racial or ethnic reasons, and even those just going about innocent activities, are being targeted and murdered. Sean Stevenson, my son, was a murder victim in Missoula, Montana, under mysterious circumstances. No answers are forthcoming from the authorities in regard to his murder. Each week, more victims are sadly added to the list, and there is no justice, no mercy, no humility, and certainly no repentance.
Jesus taught a parable, which we call the parable of the good Samaritan, in answer to a lawyer who was challenging Him about how to inherit eternal life (Lk. 10:25-37). Since the questioner was a lawyer, the Lord asked him to answer his own question based upon the Law of Moses. The lawyer answered, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself." Jesus told the lawyer that this was the correct answer to his own question. Then the lawyer wanting to justify himself for not observing the Law he just quoted, asked, "And who is my neighbor?"
Jesus told the lawyer that there once was a man who, while traveling, had been viciously attacked by thieves and left on the road, half dead. Both a priest and a Levite saw him on the road, and passed by him, even crossing to the other side of the road to avoid him. Then a Samaritan came along the road. We know that Samaritans were considered ethnic "half-breeds", and religious heretics by the Jews. They were held in contempt, and were not to be associated with. Yet when the Samaritan man saw the wounded victim laying in the road, he ministered to his wounds with bandages, oil, and wine. The Samaritan picked the victim up, and took him on his beast to an inn, where he continued to take care of him. When the Samaritan had to leave, he paid the innkeeper to continue to care for the man, and promised to pay the innkeeper if there were more charges incurred in the care of this stranger. Jesus then asked the lawyer, which of the men was the neighbor to the wounded man, and the lawyer had to answer that it was the Samaritan, the one who had shown mercy to the wounded man. Jesus instructed the lawyer to "Go and do thou likewise."
Many people, even people who are "religious", and people of faith, find it easier to remove themselves, and not get involved in the face of injustice, or when confronted by uneasy situations, perhaps involving people not held in esteem for various reasons. However, Jesus made clear that the ones who do the Word and will of God embrace justice, mercy and humility concerning their relationship with all others. The inheritance of everlasting life is based upon these things. Where are the Samaritans today, who are willing to align themselves with the downtrodden?
It is not pride, but humility that fulfills the Word of God, and brings healing to our land.

2019- A New Preparation*

The new year has begun, and with it the Church should begin a new preparation for the prophesied events that we are seeing fulfilled even now. World events are lining up with scripture, and wickedness grows greater. This also means for those in Christ, that the marriage supper of the Lamb is drawing near, and the marriage supper requires preparation from us:
"Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb (Jesus Christ) has come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God."  Rev. 19:7-9
The verses above assure us that the call to make ready as the Bride by preparing ourselves for the marriage supper, and the call to righteousness represented by the wedding apparel of fine, clean, white linen, are the true sayings of God, Himself.
Jesus also sounded His Father's call as He told the parable of the king who prepared a marriage supper for his son (Mt. 22:1-14). Servants were sent out with invitations to the marriage feast, but those invited refused to come. Again servants were sent, and were commanded to say to those bidden, "Behold, I have prepared (make ready, prepare the minds of men to give the Messiah a fit reception and receive His blessings) my dinner: my oxen (root word: "alpha") and my fatlings are killed (sacrifice and immolation of the pascal lamb), and all things are ready: come unto the marriage."
Again, not only did the invited guests decline with the excuse of other, unimportant things to do, but also made light of the king's invitation and treated his servants with violence. The wrath of the king fell upon those who had refused in such a way. The servants were then sent out to invite anyone they could find along the streets to come to the royal wedding. Of those who came, it was still expected of them to be dressed appropriately in a wedding garment. About the one guest not properly attired, and who had no excuse, the king said:
"...Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Jesus concluded by saying, "For many are called, but few are chosen."
Many are called and given the opportunity to attend the marriage of Christ and His Bride, but it is still a matter of free choice for man to accept. Only a few recognize the great importance of the event, and prepare appropriately. There are factors that enter into who accepts and who does not: who is prepared and who is not.
All things have been made ready for the marriage supper of the Lamb. We must make sure that we have made our preparations as well. As we resolve to make ourselves ready in this new year, Jesus gave us the principle by which we can begin. As the religious leaders of various types began to test and question Him regarding controversial topics of the Torah that had caused division and debate among the experts, Jesus broke down the law and expectation of God to an irrefutable principle, and to the place where we all can begin our preparation:
"Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."  Mt. 22:35-40
The Church needs to hear and heed this.
The prophet Micah revealed that even considering the obedience to temple sacrifices, the true beginning point of our renewal and preparation in God was found in this way:
"Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God?...He hath shewed thee O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?  Micah 6:6-8
True, effective preparation begins in the heart, and we will see that the preparation of the heart begins in the Word of God.
Paul's second letter to Timothy points out the challenge to Timothy and the Church in the midst of a last days spiritual condition of men that is the opposite of all that Jesus and Micah discussed above. Paul gives a complete description of that condition that is very much evident today, beginning with the fact that men have become "lovers of selves", and goes on from there until finally "...evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." (2 Tim. 3:1-7, 13). However, we are to love God with all that we are, and our neighbor in the same manner, rather than ourselves. Paul exhorted Timothy in the face of this prevailing worldly condition, to stand firm in the doctrine that he has learned from Paul, as a spiritual example, and from the scriptures themselves, that prepare a man in perfection, or completeness in God, being sustained even through the inevitable persecution that will come to the Godly (v. 12, 14-17).
In our wedding parable from Jesus, there is a complete disregard for the king. His invitation is unimportant to those who received it. This is another factor that affects the choice and preparation of men. When questioned directly by Pontius Pilate, Jesus confirmed His kingship- not of an earthly kingdom, but of a heavenly kingdom, and Pilate even agreed crucifying Christ as "King of the Jews". However, the people would not have Christ as their King. They were invited to a royal wedding banquet prepared for them by God, but they received the invitation with belittling and violence. As men reject and lose the kingship of Christ in their lives, this is the moment when they become "lovers of self", and descend into the spiritual condition of which Paul warned Timothy. Scripture also bears witness to this in various places:
"In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes." Judges 17:6, 21:25, Deut. 12:8-9, Prov. 12:15
Also in Proverbs we see these same contrasting spiritual conditions:
"Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but the LORD pondereth the hearts. To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice."  Prov. 21:2-3
This is what the Prophet Micah had shown us earlier as well, and this is the same beginning point to which Jesus also pointed us in our complete and total love for God, and our neighbor. This is also where the Church's new preparations for the coming marriage supper of the Lamb begins.
